What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are small titanium rods that replace tooth roots by fusing directly to the jawbone, providing outstanding support for dental restorations like dentures and crowns. With proper care, dental implants can provide you with the same comfort, dependability, and confidence you enjoyed with your natural teeth.

The Benefits of Dental Implants Advantages Over Traditional Prostheses Like Removable Dentures
Unmatched Security
Dental implants provide a level of support for restorations that allow patients to speak, chew, and smile with total confidence.
Natural Function
Implant-supported restorations are just as usable as natural teeth. You will be able to chew gum or bite into a caramel apple without worrying that your dentures will shift out of place.
Improved Bone Health
When a tooth is lost, the jawbone loses necessary stimulation from the tooth roots, which can lead to bone atrophy. Unlike traditional dentures, dental implants curb bone loss by acting as prosthetic tooth roots. Preventing bone loss maintains the strength of your bite and retains your facial features.
Enhanced Confidence
Replacing a missing tooth or missing teeth will give you a full, beautiful smile once again, enhancing your self-esteem. Patients with attractive smiles feel better about smiling for pictures, speaking in public, and laughing out loud, leading to a better quality of life.
Tooth Loss Occurs Often And It's Completely Treatable
According to the American College of Prosthodontists, around 120 million Americans are living with at least one missing tooth. Of that number, 36 million of them have no teeth at all. If you've ever felt alone in this problem, you're not. And you're not alone in finding a solution either. Our dentist is here to help, starting with a dental implant consultation.

All-on-4 Dental Implants
With the All-on-4® method, patients missing a full dental arch can receive full implant-supported dentures with only four implants.
Using only four implants to support the denture reduces the costs and recovery time of treatment. Furthermore, because of the placement of the four implants, patients who have suffered bone recession can still qualify for All-on-4.
We can discuss the treatment timeline for All-on-4 as part of the consultation process.

Dental Implant Aftercare
These tips can ensure your results last as long as possible.
Attend Regular Check-Ups
Visit our Carmel dentist's office every six months. During cleanings and exams, Dr. Lande can check the condition of your implants and restorations.
Brush Your Teeth
Be sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day. This removes food particles from your implant restoration and prevents bad breath as well.
Floss Your Teeth
Use superfloss or a water flossing system to remove hard-to-reach food particles around your implants and under the implant restoration(s).
Dental Implant FAQ
How long will my dental implants last?
With proper oral hygiene and aftercare, your dental implants can last a lifetime. Your implant restorations, on the other hand, are subject to natural wear and tear. Most crowns, bridges, and dentures last about 10-15 years before they need to be replaced.
I was told I needed a bone graft. What does that mean?
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that increases bone density. You may need a bone graft if your jawbone has experienced atrophy related to tooth loss. Think of it as creating a better foundation in your jawbone for dental implants.
What should I do if my implant restoration breaks?
If your implant-supported crown, bridge, or denture is cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged, contact our Carmel dental office as soon as possible. We can discuss options for repair or replacement of the implant restoration.
Can dental implants fail?
Yes, though rest assured that the overall success rate of implants is high. That said, be sure to contact our practice if you notice that your implants are loose, painful, or feel different. You should also contact us if you experience signs of gum disease or gum recession. Soft tissue inflammation and the loss of healthy gum tissue could affect your dental implants.
